other than that - here’re some things:

1) i heard and read A LOT of feedback saying it took a lot of people to “get” the song, since it’s multi-structured. it took me ONE listen and i was swoon.
2) the different song structures melded into one, THE DANCE, the rapping, the stadium chant like B chorus, THE DANCE, the colors… this song was called by a few sources to be akin to a modern day Bohemian Rhapsody and YES i wholeheartedly 100% agree..!

if i keep saying i LOVE this song by SNSD, i’m going to dilute the meaning. but god, i do.

Paparazzi was their lead single off their 2nd Japanese album, Girls & Peace. yes, they are a korean group, however record and release (Japanese) music in Japan.

i get goosebumps at 1:36 - 1:51 because the beat, the cadence of their singing, the dancing. oh… i have been swoon.

so girls’ generation made a subgroup in 2012 with members Taeyeon, Tiffany and SeoHyun. though they released an EP and only one single, Twinkle, THIS was MY favorite song from that EP. not a live music video, but kinda like an official slideshow video if that makes sense.

i LOVE the music. LOVE it. AND taeyeon KILLS it in the bridge!

i consider my appreciation and enjoyment of k-pop (some j-pop) to be nerdy. since i’m an american white boy who has yet to meet more than like 2 people who have 1) heard of them or 2) enjoy it.

that said… i first came to know SNSD/Girls’ Generation by accident when this video was posted on a music blog i frequented. because of the song title, “Run Devil Run”, i gave it a quick view because i already heard a song by the same title that Ke$ha recorded as a demo. i was REALLY happy to find out it was the same song, just with mostly korean lyrics.

this was my introduction to k-pop, and more importantly, SNSD/Girls’ Generation. with 9 members, they are a super group in south korea (all members being known by first name only) and the highest selling foreign artist in japan in their music chart history. they even recorded a full english song AND performed it on David Letterman, which was badass.

so, today, i shall post a handful of videos/songs that are my favorite from them.

and their OTHER american television MORNING debut (this morning on Live with Kelly) - i like the letterman one better because it’s kinda remixed, but i think they did really well here too! it’s exciting for this kpop nerd!

Girls’ Generation making their PREMIERE appearance on American television (the first in history for a korean group) last night on Letterman - i thought they did really well!!!

and while i think it’ll be a grower… i like it..!!!

i found it very interesting when i discovered that Girls’ Generation (SNSD as they’re known in korea) used the music and came up with a new song. i LOVE both versions..! but i probably prefer rachel stevens’ version (which was written by cathy dennis for britney spears who turned it down - DUMB), here are the two versions!

what makes this a nerdy post..? well, the fact that this is a girl group from south korea and i can’t understand korean, but still love the song and the video anyway — that’s pretty nerdy. i admit - I LIKE SNSD (aka in english as Girls’ Generation)! ok? i like about 5 songs of theirs..! now that i admit it and own it, no one can make fun of me kthnxbye :P
